Computer to TV connection FAQ

Q: How do I connect my PC, laptop or Mac to my TV?

A: Please see here for our complete computer to TV connection guide.

Q: Why can't I connect from VGA on my computer to HDMI on my TV?

A: As HDMI is digital and VGA is analogue it is not possible to connect the two together using a standard cable or adaptor. It is possible to achieve this connection using a VGA to HDMI converter, however from experience we have found them to be very unreliable and rarely work, therefore we have decided not to sell them.

Networking FAQ

Q: What cable do I need to connect my computer to my router for broadband access?

A: For this connection a straight Cat5e cable will be ideal.

Q: What is the difference between Cat5e and Cat6 cables?

A: Cat6e is the latest specification, however for almost all set ups Cat5e cable will be ideal.

Q: How do I add additional ports to my broadband router?

A: In order to connect more computers to your router you will require a network hub / switch.

HDMI and DVI FAQ

Q: How can I connect multiple HDMI devices to a single HDMI on my TV?

A: For this you would require a HDMI switch. A HDMI switch allows you to connect several devices with HDMI outputs to a screen where only one HDMI input is available. Depending on the switch you are using you can change between devices using either a remote (depending on model) or by a switch button on unit itself.

Q: Can I connect my HDMI device to more than one HDMI screen?

A: Yes, this can be achieved using a HDMI splitter. A HDMI splitter allows you to connect a single device such as a Sky HD box to multiple TV's at the same time.

Q: What is the maximum length I can go over HDMI?

A: We find that some HDMI devices such as Sky HD will lose signal at lengths exceeding 10 - 15 metres, especially if it is being connected through a switch or splitter. However some devices will work fine up to lengths such as 20 metres. If you wish to go longer than this or improve your signal strength you could try using a HDMI extender.

USB FAQ

Q: Why do you only sell USB cables up to 5 metres long?

A: USB loses signal on lengths exceeding 5 metres, therefore we do not sell standard USB cables in this length.

Q: What if I need to exceed the 5 metre length?

A: You would need to use an active USB extension cable such as our 5 metre one or our 12 metres one. Please note that is you use standard USB extension cables to exceed the 5 metre length you are unlikely to get any signal.

Q: How do I connect a USB printer to multiple computers?

A: Providing all computers have a USB port available you would require a USB switch.

Q: What USB cable do I need to connect my camera to my computer?

A: Unfortunately we do not have a complete compatibility list for the cables we offer. A range of USB to mini USB cables can be found here. If you order the wrong type wou can return it for a full refund.

TV and Satellite FAQ

Q: How do I extend my existing satellite cable?

A: To extend the cable connecting from your wall plate / satellite dish to your satellite receiver you will require an F Plug Cable and also an F Plug Coupler.
